Frequently Asked Questions

What is psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is a collaborative process where a trained therapist helps you explore your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours to improve your mental health and overall well-being. It can help with a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, and relationship challenges.

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

If you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or just not like yourself, therapy can help. You don’t need to be in crisis—many people come to therapy for personal growth, clarity, or support through a life transition.

What should I expect in the first session?

The first session is a chance for us to get to know one other. We’ll review/complete the intake form, discuss what’s bringing you to therapy, and how I might support you. We’ll talk about consent to services and confidentiality. You’ll also have an opportunity to ask questions and see if we’re a good fit.

How much do you charge per session?

My standard fee is $165 per 50-minute session. A sliding scale may be available based on financial need—please inquire for more information.

Is psychotherapy covered by OHIP?

Psychotherapy with a Registered Psychotherapist is not covered by OHIP, but many extended health benefit plans do offer coverage.

Do you accept insurance?

I do not bill insurance directly (at the moment), but I provide receipts you can submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement. Please check with your provider to ensure they cover services by a Registered Psychotherapist (RP).

Do you offer a sliding scale?

Yes, I offer a limited number of sliding scale spots. If cost is a concern, please reach out to discuss availability.

How do I book a session?

You may book a session by email/phone. I also offer a free 15-minute phone consultation for new clients.

How long are sessions?

Standard sessions are 50 minutes long. Extended sessions may be arranged upon request.

What is your cancellation policy?

I ask for 24 hours’ notice for cancellations. Missed sessions or late cancellations may be charged at the full session rate.

Do you offer evening or weekend appointments?

Yes, I offer some evening and weekend availability. Please email or call to inquire about current openings.

Is my information confidential?

Yes, everything you share in therapy is kept confidential, with a few legal exceptions. These include situations involving immediate risk of harm to yourself or others, or when required by law (e.g., child abuse, court orders).

How is my information stored?

Client records are securely stored in accordance with privacy laws and CRPO guidelines. I use encrypted software and follow best practices for digital security.

Do you offer online or virtual therapy?

Yes, I offer secure virtual therapy through a PHIPA-compliant video platform. However, my preference is to meet in person for the first few sessions. I believe that rapport is more easily established in person and serves to build a strong, relational foundation moving forward.

May I contact you in case of an emergency?
